The Okobaro of Jeremi (Ughievwen Kingdom) in Ughelli South local Government Area of Delta State, HRM (Dr.) Matthew Ediri Egbi, JP, FoD, AMNSE, RDN, Owahwa II, has called on all sons and daughters of the kingdom to form a unified force to build the institution of Ughievwen people.
He made this call at a thanksgiving service held to celebrate a court victory at Godswill Mission church, Orhuwhorhun in Udu local government area.
It was gathered that a High Court sitting at Otu-Jeremi, in Ughelli South had dismissed a case brought before it by a sub-clan of Ughievwen to be independent and ruled that Ughievwen Kingdom is one and under one traditional ruler.
The court which awarded the sum of two hundred and fifty thousand naira in favour of the the traditional ruler, held that the purported Uhurie Kingdom and installation of the Ovie of Uhurie kingdom amounted to illegality, an offence in law.
The traditional ruler was flanked at the thanksgiving by the Pere of Kabowei Kingdom, HRM Barr Shedrack Erebulu, Aduo III, Orovworere of Effurun-Otor Kingdom, king Duku II, Ovie of Oruaivie of Abraka, HRM Akpomeyoma Majoroh, Ojeta II, HRM Elder (Capt.) Joseph Timiyan, Ebenanawei of Ogulaghah Kingdom, and traditional chiefs.
Speaking in his palace in Ughievwen, Ughelli South, the traditional ruler said, “Today we have to dance to the glory of God because it was a day sons and daughters of Ughievwen Kingdom expressed their unity because we have have recognized the fact that what our forefathers did before is re-affirmed by government through the court of law.
“I am appealing to all my subjects to come and build Ughievwen because we have no other place to call our own and if we had any disagreement among ourselves before, we have come to agreement because the only right thing for us to do, is to be one
“I have no issues with my people, it was just a minor disagreement on issues and we have come together and I am using this opportunity to personally appeal to them for us to form a unified board and work together for the development of Ughievwen Kingdom and make it great.
“The essence of this is for all to come together to make Ughievwen greater than what our forefathers left for us so that we can pass a greater Ughievwen to the generations yet unborn.
“I want use this opportunity to thank the Delta State government and all other instruments of governance in the state for standing firm in its decision of keeping the traditional institution whole and healthy.
In his homely, the Archbishop, Solomon Gbakara enjoined Christians to to always appreciate God with Thanksgiving to preserve the blessings.
